Number Cake | Alphabet Cake | How to Make Cream Tart

Number Cake also called a Cream Tart or Alphabet Cake is a trendy way to celebrate a birthday or any special occasion.

Come to think of it – What better way to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary ideas order than with a number cake?

These Cream Tarts are all the passion! Also known as cream cakes or cream biscuits, they are a stunning and distinctive twist on traditional cakes.

You can cut them into numbers, letters, or shapes, and decorate/design them with flowers, fresh fruits, meringue, and all your favorite candies.

This is a rather easy recipe requiring a set of stencils to perfectly shape the numbers.

You can either buy or rent specialized number tins from bake-ware stores or make your own by printing out the numbers you need on simple printer paper.

Number Cake Recipe

Here’s how to DIY a letter or number cake at home.

All it takes is some basic equipment, pretty stuff to pile on top, and plenty of creativity.

What You Need: Ingredients

  • Two numbers or letter cake layers (sure, you need a specially shaped pan!)
  • Buttercream
  • Disposable piping bags
  • Plain round piping tip (we used an Ateco 809)
  • Sprinkles
  • Fresh fruit
  • Macaroons
  • Chocolates

Step 1

Firstly place your first number or letter cake layer on a cake stand or iced-and-trimmed board.

Then, brush lightly any loose crumbs off the cake to make sure they don’t get in the way when filling.

Step 2

Secondly, bag up your buttercream in a throwaway piping bag with a plain round tip.

After that, pipe drops or “kisses” of buttercream all along the surface of your first cake layer.

Also, you can nestle in sprinkles, mini fudge pieces, meringues or even chocolate chips at this stage if you like.

Step 3

Thirdly, cautiously place the next cake layer of cake on top of the frosting.

Do not press it down too hard, although it needs to sit securely, but not smush the layer of buttercream.

Step 4

Similarly, pipe another layer of buttercream dollops on top of the cake.

Step 5

At this moment, it’s time for the fun part which is adding all the decorations on top!

Begin with the largest decorations first, as they create focal points on the cake.

Step 6

Afterward, nestle smaller decorations like small candies or fresh fruit into the buttercream.

Step 7

For the finishing touch add a light dusting of sprinkles, gold leaf flakes or edible glitter.
