All Meat Is Not Beef! See Their Names – In this part of the world, almost any meat from almost any animal source is referred to as beef or simply meat.
This is popular not only among the uneducated but also among the educated.
The only exceptions are completely different meats; no one can refer to chicken, turkey, snails, or pork as beef.
The only distinction we seem to have made between meats that are structurally and aesthetically similar is between beef and pork. There are bovine and porcine meats, respectively.
They’re the two we refer to by their full names. It is hard to come across a person – even a stark illiterate, who would refer to pork as beef but when it comes to meats from goat, sheep, and some other related animals, it is beef.
All Meat Is Not Beef! Why am I writing an article about meat names?
I was standing in line at a restaurant, waiting for my order, when the man in front of me began raising his voice. I overheard him arguing with the waitress about the names of the meats.
When this poor waitress asked what else the man wanted, he had already purchased rice and plantain. The man answered, “Put one meat.”

I could see the waitress’s annoyance on her face, but she calmly responded, “…but sir, we have different types of meat, such as beef, pork…”
The man interjected with a witty question: “why would you put pork?” Is pork considered meat? There’s pork, there’s cow meat, and there’s goat meat! ” I had no choice but to raise my voice in order to save the helpless waitress.
This is when I realized I needed to write about it because others had entered the debate, and I discovered that most people just knew the names of the meats from cattle and pigs – beef and pork.
Special Names for the Meat of some Common Animals
Here are some unusual names for meat from species that we may or may not be familiar with.
