This version is extra special because I got the recipe from a Filipino colleague, and it’s been my go-to whenever I crave Asian-style fried rice.

The combination of soy sauce and sesame oil gives it that rich, authentic taste you’d find in Chinese restaurants.

The best part? You can easily find soy sauce and sesame oil in Nigeria in supermarkets like Shoprite, Park ‘n’ Shop, Amigo, and even Wuse Market in Abuja.

So, you don’t need to travel far to make restaurant-style fried rice at home!

Pro Tips for the Best Fried Rice
  • Vegetable Options:
    • You can swap in carrots, peas, sweet corn, snap peas, or cabbage. Cut all vegetables into small, even pieces for quick cooking.
  • Use Leftover Rice:
    • Day-old rice works best because it’s less sticky and absorbs flavors better.
  • Protein Add-Ons:
    • Try adding cooked chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp for a heartier meal. Add them right after frying the onions.
  • Soy Sauce & Salt Balance:
    • Soy sauce is naturally salty, so add extra salt only if needed.
  • Sesame Oil Usage:
    • Sesame oil burns quickly, so never use it for frying — only add it toward the end for flavor.
